Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in 882 Days

Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
